About The Keys

 

The Keys are located on the southern tip of the Florida peninsula, beginning just south of Key Biscayne and ending just 90 miles north of Cuba. The Florida Keys have the only Coral Reef in the Continental United States, with the most unique and diverse varieties of fish and  plants in North America.   It is the third largest barrier reef system in the world.

The Florida Keys are considered to be the “American Caribbean”. Key Largo is the first key you’ll reach only an hours drive from Miami, and is known as the “Diving Capital of the World”.  Crossing over Tavernier Creek you will come to Islamorada, Village of Islands, comprised of six islands Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Lower Matecumbe Key and the offshore islands of Lignumvitae Key and Indian Key,  it  is known as the “Sport Fishing Capital of the World”. Marathon, the Heart of the Florida Keys is a 10-mile-long island city at the midpoint of the Florida Keys island chain. Shortly after you cross the famous Seven Mile Bridge you will be in the Lower Keys and Big Pine, that is where the island chain takes a graceful westerly turn toward the sunset. It is a quiet region of small resorts, down-home restaurants, single-family homes, untrammeled wildernesses and rich history. And last but not least is Key West; Key West  is the southern most point of the continental United States, known for it's museums, galleries, restaurants and the Famous Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square.
